C-SPAN CAMPAIGN 2008 BUS
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Campaign 2008 Bus?
The Campaign 2008 Bus is a 45-foot mobile production studio traveling the nation to promote and enhance C-SPAN's extensive coverage of the historic 2008 presidential race. The "Road to the White House" tour includes stops at major political events in battleground states and tours of state capitals. A revamped version of the renowned C-SPAN School Bus, the Campaign 2008 Bus is also continuing its educational mission with a focus on middle and high schools and first-time voters.

Why the change from the well-known C-SPAN School Bus?
With the highly competitive and historic presidential race in 2008, C-SPAN wanted to create a dedicated vehicle that would continue the educational mission of the School Bus while also raising our visibility at key political events.

What is "Road to the White House"?
C-SPAN's signature political program that features regular coverage of the candidates, issues and events that shape presidential politics. "Road" marks 20 years on the air in 2008 and is also the name of the Campaign 2008 Bus's first tour. "Road to the White House" airs on C-SPAN Sundays at 6:30 / 9:30 p.m. ET & PT, and it is simulcast on C-SPAN Radio and www.c-span.org, where the weekly video is also archived.

How will you decide where the Bus is going?
Requests for the Bus are made in a number of ways. Educators may request a Bus visit to their school through their local cable affiliate. Because of C-SPAN's strong ties to the cable industry, cable operators may also make requests for a Bus visit to their area. C-SPAN's political team may also take advantage of its production capability by scheduling the Bus at key political events such as debates, speeches or conventions. Requests from cable affiliates, educators and other organizations may be made online at www.campaign2008bus.org.

What types of events will the Bus be participating in?
The Campaign 2008 Bus visits middle and senior high schools around the country, offering presentations about the political process and C-SPAN's unique coverage of politics to students. For educators, we provide seminars on how to use C-SPAN Classroom. We're also visiting civic groups around the country, such as Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs as well as state capitals.

How many presidential candidates and campaign events have the Buses covered?
So far the Buses has been to 77 political events such as the IA Caucus, NH Primary, PA Primary, Iowa Straw Poll, NAACP, GOP Midwestern Leadership Conference, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) Annual Fish Fry, and the Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) Annual Steak Fry. The Buses have also been visited by or used as a mobile studio for interviews with the following:

*Former AR Gov. Mike Huckabee: IA Primary
*Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani: NH Primary
