WATCH"MY STORY" ON WASHINGTON JOURNAL
3/11/04: WASHINGTON, DC

Since the decision to put “W” into the Oval Office, I have been mesmerized by your channel. I have watched debates, both presidential and otherwise, college classes from universities of the brilliant, educational and spin presentations from a broad spectrum of political perspectives, and campaign commercials I wouldn’t otherwise see living on Maui.

While most of my friends are too busy working, I have the luxury of sifting through hours of C-SPAN, learning the information you supply by the ladle-full. In an effort to share some of that awareness with others, I started a TV show on the local Public Access Channel, AKAKU. The show is called “Shine the Light On Maui” and is designed to inspire politics by involving people. While I have some shows that are taped and aired at various times, such as a presentation of Congressman Kucinich’s speech at a local venue, my “regular” show is a live, phone-in cable-cast that allows busy, hardworking people an ability to speak to their legislators from the comfort of their own living room couch.

I am finding that people that have not been involved politically before are becoming enthusiastic as they find a practical, issue-centered venue where input by way of ideas and questions is welcomed and where negative campaigning is exposed for the destructive impact it has on a political system designed to create a better world for all. You are water to seeds sown by our founding fathers, and I thank you for our little tree.
