WATCH"MY STORY" ON WASHINGTON JOURNAL
3/22/04: WASHINGTON, DC

The hundreds of C-SPAN videos lining my presidential library best express my feelings about the network.

At age nine, I discovered C-SPAN when Washington Journal looked at Ohio presidents. A presidential and history buff since age four, I have been hooked ever since. Weekends revolve around Book TV; my VCR was rolling for the American Presidents series. I even attended two live tapings, following in awe.

The mission of C-SPAN is a model for my life. Brian Lamb became a mentor after watching his peregrination to every presidential grave; I was moved to do the same and have visited thirty.

Watching the bus roll around to presidential sites in 1999 reinforced my love of history and drove me to explore the sites for myself. Because of C-SPAN's influence, I have visited every presidential site on the eastern seaboard.

Furthermore, Brian Lamb and the historical programming on C-SPAN became my guiding influences. Their passion for history supported my love for it. They have sharpened my knowledge and driven me to want to become a historical educator.

Meeting Lamb in 2000, he challenged me: "Never give up loving history." Three years later, because of his network's influence, I am a published author; I wrote a book on President Pierce.

I am teased for my addiction to C-SPAN. Nevertheless, the hours of education and influence I have received compensate.

As for the hours of C-SPAN on tape… they will be used in my classroom when I show my students the programs that changed my life.
