My experience with C-SPAN began while working a series of odd jobs after returning from a not-so-successful attempt at a college education. During this time, C-SPAN became the soundtrack to many miles spent on the highway as a delivery driver. As I have attempted to get my life and my education back on track by returning to college, C-SPAN has been an amazing tool for use in and out of the classroom. I remember one morning listening to an event on C-SPAN about the plight of women in Saudi Arabia; valiantly fighting government sanctioned kidnapping, and our government’s delicate relationship with such countries. Not but a few minutes later in my Comparative Government class did this exact topic arise and I felt more than adequately prepared to add my opinions and to make my arguments, backed with supporting facts, figures and ideas, all thanks to C-SPAN.

With tuition costs constantly rising, C-SPAN’s free and always-available programming has been the best textbook any student can own. Nothing is more fair and balanced than listening; nothing more insightful than existing as a fly on the wall, and this is what C-SPAN has allowed me to do. I adore C-SPAN’s ability to exist independent of political parties, giving those on both sides of the aisle equal opportunity to voice concern and raise issues of the greatest importance. Roosevelt’s fireside chats have evolved into the 21st century and for that I thank C-SPAN.
