Presidential War Decisions
This C-SPAN Radio special includes President Richard Nixon's address to the nation on April 7, 1971 concerning the situation in Vietnam, as well as a number of telephone conversations surrounding those remarks between President Nixon and some of his advisers and associates. participants in the calls include National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger, White House Chief of Staff H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, radio/TV actor Freeman Gosden, international economics adviser Pete Peterson, and House Minority Whip Les Arends (R-IL). Our archive audio concludes with the most recent address to the nation by President Bush on Iraq, delivered January 10, 2007.

Joining us to discuss the parallels between then and now: Andy Glass, Senior Editor, The Politico...and two scholars from the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia: David Coleman, who chairs the Presidential Recordings Program; and Ken Hughes, a non-resident scholar involved with the recent publication of a number of transcripts of these Nixon White House Tapes.
