C-SPAN STATEMENT ON SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE VOTE TO PERMIT CAMERAS IN FEDERAL COURTROOMS

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- C-SPAN, the cable network of record, released the following statement regarding the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote on the "Sunshine in the Courtroom Act," a bill to permit cameras in federal courtrooms. The bill passed the full committee today by a vote of 10 - 8, with one member abstaining, and now awaits further action on the full Senate floor. C-SPAN's statement follows:
"While C-SPAN does not have a position on the specific legislation advanced by the Senate Judiciary Committee, the network is pleased by the attention this legislation brings to the pursuit of greater public access to the Supreme Court and federal appellate courts. C-SPAN has long been an advocate for increasing public access to federal appeals courts via television. C-SPAN chairman Brian Lamb testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding this legislation last year."
